Magazine Media, PR 4605
Students learn about the processes involved in the development, preparation and distribution of the department’s multi-platform publication, Pipeline Magazine. Students are involved in all facets of the publication, including research and information gathering, writing, editorial functions, photography, layout and design, and promotion and advertising. The magazine is published once per year in digital and print versions. The digital version allows for reader interaction through videos and social media, while the print version allows for interaction through augmented reality and social media. Digital Publication Design, PR 4405
Students explore the nature and role of graphic communication; the analysis of form and function; writing and editing news and feature material; the selection and coordination of graphic support and production of resources; as well as layout, typography and color theory. Print and digital projects, including a flyer, brochure, magazine cover and spread, infographic and booklet are created. Here is a sample of work created by students. Public Relations Writing, PR 3375
Students practice writing public relations applications, including news releases, public service announcements and feature stories. Students select a client of their choosing and build a media kit tailored to their client’s target audience and objectives. I have taught this course in both a traditional and hybrid format.

Writing for Public Communication, COM 2135
Students learn application and practice of writing form and style particular to communication industry careers, such as journalism, public relations and human resource areas.

Honors Teaching Assistantship, HON 3203
I had the pleasure of supervising the teaching assistantship of a public relations honors student during the Fall of 2015. During the course of the semester, the TA learned how to disseminate ideas and assess learning while assisting with PR 4605: Magazine Media. The student worked one-on-one, in small groups and in full class settings with upper-level communication students.
